The Volvo X60 delivers passionate performance in a unique package. Its unique Scandinavian styling and lines show that Volvo has mastered the art of designing really unique vehicles. Along with many other enhancements, this Volvo introduces a pair of new engines under the hood of the XC60 for 2022. The duo brings mild hybridization to the lineup and position the compact luxury SUV at the forefront of the segment.
The 2022 Volvo XC60 presents the new B5 and B6 engines
The B5 and B6 engines are essentially enhanced versions of the T5 and T6 engines in the Volvo XC60. They add mild hybrid technology to the lineup. The B5 engine uses a state of the art four-cylinder 2.0-litre turbocharged engine connected to a 48-volt hybrid system. The combined output is rated at 247 horsepower and 258 lb-ft, which is plenty of power under the right pedal. The fuel efficiency is also impressive, with a combined city/highway rating of only 9.4 L/100 km.
The B6 engine uses the same turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder as the B5, but a supercharger is added to enhance performance. The total output ranks in at 295 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. This engine also has a better combined fuel consumption compared to the outgoing T6 engine with only 9.9 L/100 km.
At the top of the lineup, the plug-in T8 powertrain remains in both Recharge and Polestar Engineered models. This unit uses the B6 engine and connects it to a set of electric motors that produce a combined output of 400 horsepower in the Recharge model. Performance enthusiasts will love the Polestar Engineered model, which tweaks this powertrain to 415 horsepower.
More technologies and style in the 2022 XC60
Beyond the mechanical enhancements, the Volvo XC60 Volvo gets styling and technology changes. For example, the Sensus infotainment system has been replaced by an ever more intuitive Android-based interface with a voice assistant, unlimited personalization options, and best-in-class navigation via Google Maps and more in-car apps.
Styling-wise, the XC60 gets a new grille and modified front bumper. Upgrades to the radar, camera, and driver-assistance system sensors have also been conducted in order to provide more precise data to the driver aid systems.
