Volvo has been precise in defining the terms of warranty for their Electric Vehicle (EV) lineup, offering a multi-faceted approach to covering different components. Here's what you should know:
- General Component Coverage: Volvo provides a 36-month or 100,000-kilometre warranty on any component failure due to manufacturing defects. Repairs or replacements are carried out by authorized Volvo retailers at no charge. Importantly, the decision to repair or replace parts is at Volvo’s discretion, and the replaced parts become Volvo's property.
- Paint and Surface Rust: For the first three years post-registration, paintwork defects and surface rust due to manufacturing issues are handled free of charge by authorized dealerships.
- Battery Coverage: A cornerstone for EV owners, Volvo offers an eight-year or 150,000-kilometre warranty specifically for the hybrid Lithium battery pack. Defective materials are rectified free of charge.
- Rust Perforation: A unique feature of Volvo’s warranty is a 12-year coverage against rust perforation—holes that occur through sheet metal body panels due to manufacturing flaws. This does not include aesthetic elements like bumpers, trim, or the exhaust system.
- Battery Replacement: In case the battery or its module requires a replacement, it can be done similarly to any other technical part.
- Maintenance and Service: As for the upkeep, the electric motors in Volvo’s EVs are sealed for life and are maintenance-free, potentially resulting in lower running costs compared to combustion engine cars.
The warranty is also transferable to subsequent registered owners and doesn't affect your statutory rights, offering additional layers of assurance. All in all, Volvo's approach to EV warranty is as comprehensive as it is focused, designed to put the owner's mind at ease across various fronts.
